Scarab pendant

Scarab Beetles were popular amulets in Ancient Egypt. According to ancient Egyptian myths Ra, the Sun God travels across the sky every day, transforming bodies and souls. The scarab, or dung beetle, rolls poop into oversized balls and lay their eggs in them, which supplies their larva with food. This was seen as an earthly metaphorical symbol for the heavenly cycle of the sun... rebirth of life. They were used as amulets, talismans, and gifts.

The Egyptian god Khepri, who represented the sun God Ra, was often depicted as a scarab beetle or as a scarab beetle-headed man. The ancient Egyptians believed that Khepri renewed the sun every day before rolling it above the horizon, then carried it through the underworld after sunset, and then repeated the cycle again the next day.

This winged scarab is based on traditional ancient Egyptian designs.
