Vegetable Ivory comes from the seed of a tropical palm tree (Macrocarpus Phytelephas) that grows wild in the Amazon rainforest. Each piece has been individually carved by our skilled sculptors in Bali, who previously used deer horn, elephant ivory and bone. By substituting renewable “vegetable” ivory for its animal counterpart, we encourage the continuation of traditional craftsmanship, but without the needless destruction of wildlife. Each carving has its own unique character. No two are quite the same.
